Michael's Story
Life
I was in Viet Nam from 1968 to 1969 and was discharged from the army on July 4th, 1969. Thanks all for celebrating my independence day every year. I worked in auto and truck parts for a cople of years. Got married in 1970 had two wonderful girls. Went to work for SDG&E in 1972 in the parts department of fleet maintenance. In 1977 I bid on a job as apprentice lineman and went through a 3 year apprenticeship. Was divorced in 1980 and her and the kids moved to Central Point, Oregon. I remarried in 1981 and we bought 8 acres in upper Alpine and built a house on the property. I worked in the Mountain Empire area of the company until about 1986 when I made Electric Troubleman and had to relocate to Beach Cities. That is my job---I still live in Alpine. In 1991 I divorced again and was able to keep the house (with all the overtime I worked) I was able to make the new paymen...Expand for more
ts. I worked as a Troubleman until 2002 at the beach and retired until 2002 with 30 years at the company. I met my fiance in 1991 and we have been together ever since. We went to Fiji and Australia and got certified to dive so we could dive the Great Barrier Reef---it is so much fun to play Mike Nelson!!! I got a little bored and didn't want to give the tax man 42 percent of the money in my 401K so I went back to work for SDG&E as a Contract Administrator in April 2005. I watch Contractors do work in substations for the company and make sure they don't get electrocuted.
My girls live in Oregon still and they both got married and I have 5 grandkids--the first one was named after me. I'm looking forward to turning 59 1/2 in June so I can retire again. I'll keep working until the house is sold. Hopefully soon. That's my story and I'm sticking to it..........
