Michael's Story
Life
Since I graduated High School I stuck with the Music field. I tried Chef's school for a 14 months but that fell flat when it folded so I stayed with music. I was the General Manager of Blue Note Records in North Miami Beach Florida before I moved to Wilmington Delaware. At the same time, I played Drums and Bass in several local bands (I know I'm a so-so Guitarist...ask Sheldon, Greg or Carolyn from Stage band-1980) in the last 15 years, and I made a record. I always played drums due to excess "nervious energy" (ask Mr. Rust about my textbook drum solos that drove him nuts). I've been doing production work with several local rock bands and playing Bass on the side. I've also been running a Recording studio and audio mastering service as well (Hamco) and very busy working with various clients. Due to a botched-up surgery to my left hand 6 years ago my Drumming career came to a halt. I still play Bass and rhythm Guitar in some bands and run the studio and do engineering as well as buying and trading vintage guitars and basses. y Mother to cancer and the stress of running the store was getting to me, plus the muzik was sucking big time. I refuse to lower myself by selling Brittany, boy bands, & BS. I met a wonderful lady named Margaret who's a pianist just a few months after I moved to New Jersey. I'm now living in Wilmington Delaware and happily married. We might re-locate to Boston in a few years, the music scene in Wilmington sucks big time. I'm now playing drums in a avant guarde jazz group called "Windburned Drunk", were sort of a cross between Sun Ra's Arkestra and (Weasels era) Mothers Of Invention. Yes, I still collect record albums. My collection is up to 7000 LPs. One of these days, I plan to open up a record store either in Wilmington or Boston if/when we move.
As for Hallandale, I do owe allot of gratitude, a huge God bless and good karma to Mr. Verbeke in DECA, I managed to run 3 record stores (Record Haven, Vibrations and Blue Note) after graduating high school thanks to his teachings, and to Mrs. Dillon, Mr. Joyce, Mr. Pickus, Mr. Morgan, Mr. Villar, Ms. Fisk and a handful of others who were kind and thoughtful. - MA
