Life
Michael D. Attardi, Sr.
Award-winning Director, Screenwriter and Lyricist, Michael D. Attardi, Sr. was born in Long Branch, New Jersey, where he excelled on the athletic field as well as in the classroom. Always having a passion for the arts and sports, the New Jersey All-State and All-Shore choirÂs were his first musical accomplishments. This experience, led him to full length musical composing. In his junior year of high school, Michael was accepted as a gifted student to the Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey where he won the Philip Turner creative award in music. Composing Big Band/ Swing music at the age of 17, he completed 18 Big Band arrangements, which were orchestrated at Monmouth University in 1985.
When all of this was going on, Michael was able to make the All-Shore Football team and broke all of his high school kicking records at Long Branch, NJ. Awarded the special teamÂs player award in football in 1985, Michael was granted an Athletic/Academic scholarship to Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. Where he broke 7 university kicking records and was named to the Kodak All-American football teams in 1987 and 1988.
Appearing in 5 musicals during his college career, Michael also wrote three screenplays, which were produced by the University Players at Montclair State University. As the youngest winner of the Eugene Stein Musical Award in 1989 for best original University Musical, he also won the Lyndon B. Johnson Congressional Scholarship award and worked for Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. and Congressman Joseph Kennedy, Jr. on Capital Hill for a semester. Michael majored in English and Musical Theatre in 1991from Montclair State University.

With music and writing always on his mind, he formed a 24 piece Big Band in 1994 and recorded a CD named ÂWhen IÂm with you. Touring in New York and San Francisco, Michael performed in clubs like The Bitter End, The Supper Club and The Metropolis to name a few.
1997 saw the birth of MichaelÂs business called Jersey Sports News. A successful local sports paper that has changed the sports scene in Monmouth County. Elected to the Long Branch Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001, he began to concentrate on music and writing.
All of his life, Michael was fascinated with the animated works of Walt Disney. Since 1997, he has worked with former Disney animators while taking courses at the Disney Institute in Orlando, Florida. Michael wrote his first musical animation in 1999. This inspiration guided him to write several musical screenplays and soundtracks.
Michael has won three Perri Awards, The Annecy Film Festival, The Telly Awards and the Slamdance film Festival for best original musical soundtrack in 2005. He is a member of the Writers Guild of America, East and the Society of composers and lyricist. Michael also has 198 musical U.S. copyrights.
Recently, Michael finished his short animated musical comedy film, starring Jim Belushi and Tim Curry called ÂOnce Upon a Christmas Village which won the Grand Jury awards at the Festival De Cannes, France, Boston, Hollywood, Las Vegas, Houston, Swansea, Wales, Washington, D.C., Hollyshorts, Action/Cut Competition, Garden State, Delray Beach and Montclair. He also won eleven Telly Awards, four Accolade Awards and six Aurora Awards. The film has qualified for the Academy Awards for Short Animated Film Category.
Michael married Colleen in 1999 and they share two beautiful sons, Michael, Jr. and Nathaniel as they reside New Jersey.
