Michael's Story

I am blessed to be living the dream in Southwest Florida with my wife, Jamie. Our home is in Fort Myers, just 10 minutes from our 5- and 6-year-old grandkids, my son, and his wife. Everyone told me of the joys of having grandkids, but not of the delight in watching our kids morph into caring parents. Jamie and I are heathy and happy in the year-round Florida sunshine where I can golf all year long. For us, life is truly good! In 2018, I retired as CEO of Brunswick headquartered Philpott Solutions Group, an employee-owned, rubber and plastics molding company founded in 1889 in Cleveland. I joined Philpott after retiring in 2006 from my first career. Imagine the fascinating story of Philpott’s rich history and its remarkable ability to sustain itself, even through two World Wars, the Great Depression, the COVID-19 pandemic, and countless recessions! During my 12-years at Philpott, we more than tripled its size and substantially increased its value. Perhaps my proudest accomplishment there was moving our manufacturing activities from China, where it had been for more than two decades, to our band new production facility in Aurora, OH. From Philpott’s Aurora and Brunswick, OH facilities, we make and distribute parts for our customers around the globe! I continue to serve as a member of the Philpott Board of Directors. My career in industry started in 1977, when I joined Medina, OH headquartered Harco Corporat...Expand for more
ion, a leader in providing corrosion prevention and headquartered in Medina. I started as a salesman and was eventually transferred to Houston, TX, where I learned about the many aspects of the oil and gas industry. While in Houston, I grew through the management ranks and became regional manager of our Texas regional headquarters that operated through branch offices in the five-surrounding states. In 1984, I and several managers at Harco started our own corrosion control business and called it Corrpro Companies, Inc. In 1989, we acquired our former employer, Harco, which required that I move back to Medina. I began traveling the world working with members of the Corrpro team and our offices in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas. As Corrpro’s Executive Vice President of Business Development, I was a member of the management team that took Corrpro public on the New York Stock Exchange through an Initial Public Offering (IPO). From there, we continued to acquire companies throughout the world while developing new technologies that reduced the costly ravages of corrosion on the global infrastructure. For my part, I was an author of four USA and three international patents for novel corrosion control systems. In 2006, I attempted to retire, but quickly found that I had too much time and energy left. It was then that I was recruited to Philpott where I began my second career in late 2006.
