Michael's Story

The class of '73 prom theme was "This Magic Moment", right? There were plenty of magic moments around KHS from 69-73. My magic moments, or high points, of high school were playing in the band and socializing with my friends, and also - there's a good case for this being the very best part - those little moments of learning something. Mr Dalley's math classes, Mr Perry's government classes, and particularly Mr Norsworthy's German classes, though he had an issue with my attendance at times...Mr Poznick's science classes, Miss Smith's English, Miss Fox's speech, and of course Mr Pugh's impassioned band direction, Mr Clouser's enthusiasm for football, and many more. I doubt I'll ever forget marching band, hope not anyway. Hippie Hill, Starr Market, that pizza place up the way, Baskin Robbins, wow! Senior play, Oklahoma, was really fun and showed that Knights had talent. A couple of travels, a series of jobs, correspondence with some valued friends, and voila, the 70s and 80s had changed tenses. (one might add, some psychological intervention when badly needed helped to round out the picture) In 1985 the phone company hired me. I got as far as NOC technician after a number of other interesting and rewarding positions. I took early retirement in 2012 opting for more time with my wife, and went for a lower-stress p...Expand for more
osition as a courier. In my newfound spare time, I am finally going to finish my English Literature degree. Classes are online but still very challenging yet fun. Fortunate person I am, I met Marie, fell in love, and married, which adds up to more blessings than I can count! One of the biggest thrills I've had (laugh if you want) was fixing up and living in an old house in Kansas City, Kansas. At one point we had 6 cats. In 2008, we paid a friend to take the cats, gave up the house, and moved back to Florida to be nearer to the rest of our families. Fond memories of Kimball, and of you, quite likely, if you're reading this. Say what you will about school...but having a locker and a combination and a class schedule makes sense of your day...there are people you look forward to seeing and, um, maybe some you don't, but sometimes you - or they - turn that around...which is really neat and memorable and it happened to me numerous times! The glass hall, the library, the beautiful landscaping, and best of all, the many caring teachers, staff and fellow learners made Kimball a fine and nurturing place. Hope my magic moments didn't interfere with yours, and really hope that maybe some of them interacted positively and enhanced yours! Greetings, classmate! Live long and do well while doing good - anyway, hi!
