Michael's Story
Life
Well, it's been a busy and fun life thus far, with no signs of slowing down. I am currently single, living in Redding, California, and working as a groundwater scientist for my day job. I will confess that even though 98% of my job involves math, I do not (directly) use calculus or anything much harder than algebra and trig. The computer simulations use calculus and worse, but someone else did all the work so that I live the easy-math life. I get to do cool high-end computer simulations that help cities and agricultural districts get water for their customers, and figure out how to clean up military and indus...Expand for more

For my night job, I play bass in a couple bands around town, and occasionally substitute in other bands here and there. I am completely mediocre as a bass player, but have found that showing up 1) on time and 2) sober is enough to qualify me for the fun gigs. One band is a normal-configuration acoustic-flavored rock band that relies heavily on originals, and the other is a goof-off party band with horns, occasional bagpipes, and as much cowbell as we can goad the drummer into.
