My Life after High School
Went to UW-Eau Claire from 1956-61, graduating with a BS degree in Chemistry & Math. Taught in Auburndale, WI from 1961-1963, Neillsville, WI from 1963-1969, and Hilmar, CA 1969-70. Attended a NSF-sponsored Academic Year Institute at UNC-Chapel Hill, NC during 1966-67, and got my Master of Arts in Teaching degree in 1970. Moved to San Francisco in May 1970, started with State of CA in August 1971 as a Food & Drug Investigator in Health Fraud and Cancer Quackery investigations. Stayed with F&D thru 1988, progressing thru the ranks to Program Coordinator. Lived in Los Angeles from 1973-78, and Sacramento from 1978-1988. Moved back to L.A. in 1989 as a Compliance Officer with U.S. CPSC, then transferred to MD, where I live now, in 1991. I retired from CPSC at the end of the millennium (December 31, 2000), and started my own business as a consultant on product safety issues regarding the safety standards for cigarette and multi-purpose lighters. Now I enjoy life with my two dogs, Ginger and Lacey, and bowling in 2 - 3 leagues a year during the fall/winter seasons and keeping score for ...Expand for more
a softball team in the summer. Retirement is GREAT!!!!!
Sept. 2011: Ginger was put to eternal sleep in April of this year at the age of 11-1/2 after being invaded by parasites and losing lots of weight. Medications did not improve her condition. I started working part-time at the Bethesda Naval Bowling Center at the end of March, working the front desk and also started going to the gym to work out 3 days a week. My summer league bowling team won first place, and now that the fall seasons are resuming I will be bowling in 2 leagues and working 3 days-a-week at the bowling center. Because of my new activities, I did not keep score for the softball team this summer.
August 2017: Since my last update, Lacey, my border collie, passed away at 12.5 years due to cancer in her mouth and nasal passage. I later adopted a new dog, Tessie - a shepherd mix in August 2015. I retired for the 3rd time by giving up my consulting business in 2013, but continue working at the Bethesda Naval Bowling Center on an as needed basis. I also continue bowling in 2 leagues during the fall/winter season and serve as secretary/treasurer of the bowling center's summer league.
