Michael's Story

Hi It has been a while since I updated my personal page. Am trying to get caught up here as well as in linkedn and Facebook. These sites are here for us to expose our lives to those we have not seen in a while. Please excuse me if the attached text sounds conceited in any way. Like everyone my life has had its ups and downs but I prefer to focus on the positives...besides no one likes a whiner:) In 2008 I sold a distribution company I owned called New England Accents. It was a good run and alot of fun. I sourced home and garden products from around the world and sold them to garden centers in the Northeast and Canada. I did alot of travelling and really enjoyed the people and work. When the sale of the business was finalized I had every intention of taking it easy but that lasted about 6 months. I realized pretty quickly I would bore or party myself to death. Most likely one would influence the other. So I decided I had to do something to keep myself occupied. Prior to the distribution company I was like many of you in high tech, specifically software. My background is international sales and marketing and the travelling I did for many years helped me source products for my distribution business. In my high tech days leading up to 2001 I helped international software companies start their US operations. A company I founded ( Attache) would start the US business, grow it to 3-5 million in sales, hire the first round of permanent management, take a piece of equity out of the business and go do the same process again. I had some very nice success and some very big...Expand for more
failures along the way. Such is life. In 1998-2001 was concentrating on companies out of the middle east and Israel (wonderful place to travel). September 11th pretty much put the kabash on bringing in companies from that region so I thought I would retire....nope..bored and partying too much I started New England Accents. Fortunately the success outweighed the failure and I find myself coming full circle and doing the same thing once again. Since 2008 I have brought in two companies from the Scandanavian area. One from Norway named Contempus which I helped sell to a competitor in early 2009. Since then I have linked up with a wonderful company and friends at Palette and am building their US operation as we speak. They are located in Stockholm and we are experiencing a lot of growth in the US Market. Enough business, I am also now the proud father of a 15 month old German Shepard named Diego. Anyone that knew me probably figured out early on that I was not a potential candidate for father of the year so I chose to forgo the whole children thing. Diego is the son I never had:). I am teaching him english (german bloodlines) and he is teaching me to chill out. Diego also has a girlfriend coming (will be born January 2010) but he does not know it yet. I also have an interest in anything antique. Old cars, boats, advertising signs from the 1800s, cast iron etc. I am now restoring both a 1963 Chevy Imapala Supersport and a 1958 Mahogany Chris Craft Speedboat... Would love to talk to anyone sharing these types of interests. Enough for now.... Sincerely Mike Cichy
