Michael's Story
Life
Howdy from Houston!
My wife and I have been here since '92, and I work internationally in the oil and gas industry. It has been an interesting career, living among other peoples and cultures. So far, I have lived in Scotland, Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand. My current work location is Angola. I last worked in Angola in 1982, when the country was occupied by Cuban troops. The civil war in Angola ended in 2004. It is interesting to see the changes since then. It is a different world, there, and I will not try to describe the food. Suffice it to say that what is normal cuisine in the US is not the norm in Angola.
If you ever get the chance to go to Cape Town, South Africa, do so. It is a beautiful city. First rate.
I have four children, the youngest finally out of high school. My wife has three children, and ...Expand for more
her eldest daughter recently gave birth to our second granddaughter. I'm too young to be a grandpa. It is nice being called "Pappa" by the older granddaughter, who is 3-1/2. She is a feisty, willful little thing, a little chatterbox.
My mother passed away three years ago. My father passed away in March 2008. I am planning to move to Chapel Hill, NC in the near future. My sisters Joyce and Cindy live there, and Barbara lives near Raleigh. My brother Paul lives in Ohio and Bobby lives in Fredericksburg. After all of these years, he married Sharon Burnett, the "girl down the street." We are happy for them.
I hope to have an annual Carolina-style pig picking in Virginia Beach, in the future, to commemorate my parents' lives. If anyone is interested in attending, let me know.
I hope all of you are well and have enjoyed your lives.
Best wishes always,
Mike
