Michael's Story
Hey everybody... I'm that guy that transferred out half way thru our Junior year, but my heart's always been in Fort Gibson. I haven't spent more than a week there at any one time in the past 20 years, but think about that little town frequently.
So let's see... I graduated from high school in NC and went in to the Army - got out after 3 years and went to college to learn everything there is to know - even went to class occasionally; then, got married and went back into the Army (nobody ever accused me of being very smart). Finally, at the tender age of 31, I decided to get a job - which really sucked might I add, but I stayed with it until our country was attacked in 2001... then (of course) went back into the Army - National Guard this time, actually - and went to OCS (Officer Candidate School). I'm currently a Captain serving on active duty with the Army and have been for the last 3 years.
After returning from Iraq in 2006, I was asked (and for some reason, agreed) to stay in the service to head up a team that conducted intelligence training for Army Reservist and National Guardsmen mobilized to deploy to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo and the Horn of Africa. That was a great job that lasted until last December (2007) when I screwed up and got selected to be on a General Officer's staff. I now spend my days travelling the 27 states that we're responsible for to ensure training is being conducted to stan...Expand for more
dard.
I suckered this girl I met into marrying me a few years back and we've somehow managed to stay that way for 13 years now - not that we like each other all that much; we're just too lazy to go find anybody else.
We have 3 wonderful children - an 11 year-old girl and twin 7 year-olds (boy and girl). They're healthy, happy, smart and attractive (at least, as much as they can be, considering they're my offspring). Most importantly, they're my fan club and my best friends.
My favorite hobby is being Dad. Some actually say I'm good at it. I love it. I've coached basketball, T-ball, softball and soccer. I've worked on science projects (probably screwed them up as bad as I did when I was in 5th grade) and helped with girl scouts (that part was a little wierd). Parents of the kids I've coached have told me that I'm great with the kids... I tell them that the reason is that I'm really immature for my age...
I also like playing golf - played competitively for a couple of years on a mini-tour and basically sucked... but the good news is that I didn't come in last everytime. I still play every chance I get, which unfortunately isn't that often anymore.
I've been lucky with investments lately, so we may actually be able to put the kids through school - if we can find one that will take them....
We're on our 3rd house; we have 2 cars, 2 motorcycles, a 4-wheeler, a dog and a cat.
Take care all...
Mike
