Michael's Story
Military
I was station with VF-1 around Aug 1984 to March 1988 in Miramar. I took part in the Iraq/Iran Campaign onboard the USS Ranger CV-61 in 1987. I spend 109 days on station in the Arabian Sea. After VF-1, I was station at NAS North Island with the Base Weapons Department around April 1988. This was one of my favorite duty assignment. I meet some verly good people there. I had alot of fun there. I left NAS North around May 1990 and arrived at VF-41 Black Ace in June 1990. During this tour of duty, I participated in Operation Desert Storm. The assignment there was to liberate the nation of Kuwait from Iraq and stop them from invading Saudi Arabia. After the verly successful tour at VF-41, I left around March 1993 and was stationed at HM-12 in NAS North Island until April 1994. The command was decon. and arrived at CVW -1 around November 1995 onboard the USS America CV-66. I turned out to be the longest place that I was ever assigned. During this long duty assignment, I was on several different aircraft carriers, the USS America CV-66 1995 to 1996; the USS George Washington CVN-73 1997 to 1998; and the USS John F. Kennedy CV-67 1999 to 2000. After the long CVW-1 duty assignment, I was station with VF-213 out of NAS Oceana from March 2000 to March 2002. During this duty assignment onboard the USS Carl Vinson, I witness something that I will never forgot, When I seen those airplanes crashing into the twins towers and the penagon, I knew this was going to be a long cruise. We was on station in the Arabian Sea about 111 days participating in Operation Enduring Freedom. After VF-213, I was station at NAS Patuxent River Weapons Department, Maryland. I retired there around March 2004. I'm currently living in Maryland, I love it here.
