Michael's Story
Life
After CHS, I attended Cypress College & worked at various photography jobs. I shot weddings, family portraits, little-league teams, & anything else that paid.
I bought my 1st computer after graduating CHS. I taught myself programming and took computer classes at Cypress College. Computers were just a hobby at that point.
In 1985, photography jobs were getting a bit thin, so I started programming as a freelance consultant. That started a career switch from photographer to software engineer.
In 1986-87, I created a typefont editing program named FONTZ! for the Atari ST computer. It started as a personal project, but I decided to see if anybody was interested in publishing it. This led me to a small company named "Neotron Engineering" (later renamed "Neocept"). I sold them the rights to FONTZ! and took a job as "Chief Software Engineer".

In DEC-90, I finally moved out of Cypress when I took a position at Atari, in the San Francisco Bay Area. At Atari, I served as the lead developer support engineer for the Atari ST computers, and later as the developer tools & documentation manager for the Atari Jaguar game console.
In FEB-96, I joined Sony Computer Entertainment America as a senior developer support engineer for the PlayStation game system. One neat perk (besides free games) was getting to travel a lot, including a few visits to the home office in Japan.
In 1998, I left SCEA for my current position at a new company. VM Labs has created the NUON media processor for DVD players and other digital video devices.
While my career is in software engineering, I've continued to pursue photography as a hobby and side venture. I'm currently living in a "loft" in Oakland, California, where I have my own moderately-sized photo studio.
I'm single and have no children... that I know of, anyway! :^)
