Michael's Story
After graduating from WUHS I joined the Navy Reserve and went to Boot Camp for the summer. I attended Fresno State for a couple of years and then transferred to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, graduating from there in December 1966 with a B.S. in Ag Business Management. During the summers at Cal Poly I attended Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, earning a commission as an Ensign upon graduating from Cal Poly.

I was the Boarding Officer and spent a lot of time boarding/searching junks and sampans for Vietnamese draft dodgers and contraband.
Following the Navy I got married and went to work for the California State Division of Highways, now known as Caltrans, as a Right of Way Agent in the San Bernardino office. I also worked in the Los Angeles office for nearly three years. My wife passed away in April 2004, and I retired from Caltrans in October 2005.
Since retirement I have occasionally worked part-time for Caltrans, and spend most of my time working on the house, dabbling in photography, and occasionally traveling. Karen Andersen (WUHS '64) and I reconnected at a class reunion, and married in 2016.
