Michael's Story

I became a Taoist/Buddhist shortly after I came Hong Kong in January 1978 and still practice after 32 years. Graduated from HKIS June 1980, moved to Hemet, CA to live with Grandparents, go to Mount San Jacinto College and work for Harris & Co. department store. June 1981 went to Hong Kong to visit Donald Carl and family for 3 weeks. Then I moved back to Cupertino, CA family home. Dad said if you go to school you can live here for free or pay $200 a month if you plan on working only. I got my first job in Silicon Valley, at Vindicator Corp. assisted in running the Wave Solder machine and performed 2nd assembly and inspection of printed circuit boards. 4 months later I interviewed at a company called Compower but I didn't get the job. Then 2 months later I tried Compower again and was hired as a Power Supply Repair Technician, However they didn't have a bench for me, So I worked in the stockroom for the next 3 weeks. They were moving from Campbell, CA to San Jose, CA. The big move came and I finally got my bench to work at fixing power supplies. By Oct 1982 I was offered a position in the Engineering Lab as Research & Development Technician. I worked directly with the V.P. of Engineering George Tuma on several power supply projects until May 1984 when I became Test Engineer by default, managing the construction our own Automated Test Equipment and performing field service of them in Hong Kong, Ireland, Mexico, South Korea and the U.S.A. I remained in the position of Test Engineer until Sep 1987, when I left Compower to pursue a career as a Independent Electronics Contractor. In the past 23 years I have contracted with SUN Microsystems WSD, Siemens Optoelectronics, Watkins-Johnson SEG, Technical Instr- ument Co., Photon Dynamics, Ultra Stereo Labs, Digital Power, AmPro, PI SQUARED, Power Conversion America, KLA-Tencor, Computer Products NAD, LUMISYS and a whole bunch of little companies, as a non-degreed Elec...Expand for more
trical Engineer. I'm still using the name J.S.C. (Japan Stereo Co.) which I came up with in Hong Kong in 1978. When I had visions of competing with the likes of J.V.C. (Japan Victor Corp. a division of RCA) I was making wireless microphones and custom Audio products for students and teachers alike at HKIS. There's a lot of custom test equipment in California with the J.S.C. logo. Other than work I enjoy many hobbies, like Radio Controlled cars/planes and real cars? like the Honda 600. I had 9 of them, 8 sedans and 1 coupe. Now I have only one remaining my red sedan that I made into a unitized body pickup truck in 1993. But now (since 2003) my Honda 600 pickup has been transformed again, it now has 4 Wheel Drive running gear via a Suzuki Samurai Engine and chassis with the Honda 600 body on top. I call it "Weird Foot" Its a head turner on the street. So small you could put it in the bed of a Ford F150 pickup truck. My 1978 Toyota HiLux pickup died in 2003 with 525,000 miles on the original engine, now thats reliability (Yes, I do a lot of driving). I have had a couple of long term relationships, but never got married. I'm an uncle to 8 nieces and 1 nephew. My brother Gabe & Sue (Taylor) have 4 daughters, my sister Carol & Jim (Brescia) have 2 daughters and my sister Katy & Brad (Davis) have 2 girls and 1 boy. My brother Matthew got married in March 2008. My first niece Nicole got married in Sept 2008. My brother Raphael is currently in a relationship. In December 2008, Reversica Designs downsized due to falling sales, so like a lot of other people, I was pounding the pavement again to find work, finally in Dec 2009 I found a new contract position in San Jose, and fortunately I get to telecommute on this job 4 days a week. I met an interesting lady, Karen on Mingle2 in Aug 09 and we have been dating steadily since, maybe the 3rd Girlfriend is the charm? I hope everyone is having a good new year so far !
