Michael's Story

Hello Everyone, I had the most unusual five week vacation in September, 2005. Initially, I flew to Orlando, Florida to spend some time with our sister and family for about 2 weeks. Another good story of this part of the vacation, 9 cousins were in Orlando from England. All of my siblings had met 3 of the 9, so most of my siblings were able to meet the other 6 for the first time. The six were a family of 6, father, mother, 2 daughters and 2 sons. The daughter of the 6, two of the other 3 cousins, were the mother and father of the daughter of the 6. It was great to meet and be with all of them for a couple of weeks. Then with the rental car, I drove to Concord, North Carolina, to see uncles, aunts, and cousins from our dad's side of the family. The first two days were good, then on September 28, 2005, returning to my uncle's home, I stopped at a northbound I-85 rest area in Concord, NC, early in the morning to get something to drink. Two guys, one age 30, and the other age 27, both cocaine addicts, I later learned, decided to rob me, but before robbing me they assaulted me in the head several times with a baseball bat, when leaving the rest area. I attempted to leave as I started to believe something was not good as the younger one stood against the wall in the vending machine area, with his hand behind his back. Never saw the bat and the assault occurred with my back to them. This eventually became the vacation of hell. I went into a coma for 7 weeks, part medically induced. While in the coma, I had the right part of my skull removed to alleviate brain pressure and swelling, put in a freezer for three weeks and then reattached. The left side of the skull was broken into 8 pieces, removed and discarded. Initially, because the addicts hit me in the eyes with the bat, doctors thought I would lose my eye and fortunately, that did not happen. After coming out of the coma, I had to learn how to walk and talk again and deal with very negati...Expand for more
ve doctors and other medical people who did nothing good because they were so hopeless and helpless that my brain injury(ies) were so severe, would probably never heal, and I would never be the Michael I had always been. Fortunately, the whole assault was caught on camera in the vending machine area. Unfortunately, the assault was televised all over the US on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and local stations. Although more good things happened over these newscasts, I really didn't appreciate the 15 minutes of fame multiple times. I did not appreciate paying for negative medical care and I really hated the brain injury(ies). Fortunately, I had a little help from my naturopath who also suffered from a severe brain injury and my dentist. These two helped with about 25% of healing the brain injury(ies) and I did my own research and came up with about 75% of natural treatments to assist in brain injury(ies) healing. I did everything I learned and I am fortunate to basically be 100% since I did everything simultaneously. The doctors and other medical people were amazed that I did as well as I did prior to healing the brain injury(ies), but I told these idiots, I did not want live with any brain injury and I needed to be 100%. Finally, I fired the last group I worked with in June, 2008 as I had had enough of paying for negative medical care at 4 different hospitals in the Seattle metropolitan area. Also, 6 months following the assault, where the skull was missing on left side, had surgery to put in a piece of plastic. On one hand the medical people saved my life as initially, for three weeks, the doctors and others told my family I had a 37% chance of surviving. On the other hand, following the coma, the negativity was comparable to be assaulted multiple times. Although this is somewhat lengthy, it really is part of the whole story. I hope everyone is doing well in this unusual and strange economy. Take care of yourselves. Sincerely, Michael Honeycutt
