Michael's Story
Enlisted 1968 out of school US Army. Graduated USASCS Signal School, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Got married 1969 to Brenda Pate of Messick whom I dated while working at Crosstown Theater in High School. Had one son. 3 years stationed in Germany. Discharged E5 NCO. 3 Years Memphis State, Music Ed Major, Classical Guitar & Viola. Hated Student Teaching, quit. Worked for Barrow-Agee Labs for a year. Boring, quit. Played with Glen Frazier around the country for 10 Years. Played behind John Conley, John Anderson, Mel McDaniel. Brenda Lee. Learned to Fly fixed wing. Loved it. Quit music business and moved to Mountain View, AR. Learned to work on airplanes. Got my Airframe and Powerplant License/Inspection Authorization. Worked for Raytheon Beech Aerospace Services, Inc in Jackson MS as Lead Mechanic/Floor Supervisor. Board certified at Pikes Peak Community College teaching Airframe and Powerplant Maintenance. . In 1994 chosen by FAA as first Arkansas State Mechanic of the Year. 1995 Brenda and I built our own shop. Learned to fly helicopters, the best adrenaline rush I've ever had. Loved it. Thank you Larry! School certified on Enstrom and Robinson Helicopters. I'm the luckiest guy in the world. I get paid to do what I love. Still married to the same girl who loved me from the day she met me in high school until the day she died. Most men don't get that lucky. My son is back from Iraq and discharged as an E7 sniper and instructor.. I am very proud of him. 1 Grandson, just graduated 2nd Lieutenant from Officer Candidate School and Ranger School US Army and 2 Beautiful Granddaughters. Brenda passed away in August 2020 from Parkinson. 51 years of marriage to me proves she was a Saint We were a perfect match. I still make it to the shooting range twice a week. Since my heart attack in 2010, I'm grounded to fly solo in helicopters, but I still hitch a ride whenever I can get a little stick time in the process.
