Michael's Story

Life I left Richardson after graduation, and built boats in south Dallas until the gas crunch put us out of business. I joined the Navy..Flash forward 20 years, and here we are. I retired from the Navy in Feb 2002 after a very great career! I served with several different aircraft communities, A-7's during the Granada & Lebanon stuff from the USS Independence from 1983-1994 I went to the Naval Aircraft test and evaluation center in MD, and went on too many aircraft carriers to mention. From there I had the best tour of my career with the Blue Angels performing airshows which many of you might have seen from 1988-1992. I left the Blues in feb 1992, and went to F-14 Tomcats from Va. and cruised on the final two cruise on the USS Saratoga, and USS Enterprise. Then to then it was time to plant my feet on the ground...Memphis TN, and a tour with the staff of the personnel division of the Navy riding a desk....yuck. The only thing good that came from that tour was my new family. I left Tn in 2000, with my wonderful wife Renee (also now retired Navy) and went for my final tour in Oklahoma with the Strategic Command community.. Whew!!! It was time to retire...! I now live in New Braunfels, TX, in the home that my Grandfather built 55 years ago. For those of you who don't know about N.B. ...It's a great place to visit and bring your families. Come visit our rivers and the world's most famous water park, the SCHLITTERBAHN. Even tho I'm retired, I still can't get away from the river. I work at a local river outfitter,Fish and hunt when I want dad and sub teach in the school system here. My wife teaches 6th grade, and we have 5 kids ranging from 10-15...Yes we are a combined family. Her three kids (15, 13, and 10)and mine, (13 and 10), keep us really busy !! I love being an "available ...Expand for more
Dad"! I just thought that this would be a cool place to catch up on things. Hope and pray that everyone of you who reads this is doing well and having fun!!!! Workplace I retired afterover twenty years of active service in the Navy. Now I enjoy being completely flexible. I substitute teach in the local school district, and remodel houses that were damaged by the floods this past summer. I work for a river outfitter company in town during the summer. Its a work when I want to, don't when I don't arrangement. My wonderful wife is also retired from the Navy and is a special education teacher in Seguin. I am planning a return to the work field as a 5th grade teacher some time in the future, but this retired thing is real nice now... Military I spent a great twenty years of service in the Navy. I served in several different squadrons as a jet engine mechanic and Fuel system technician. I was fortunate enough to have served in some great places, and to have gone to some cool places. I spent one tour with the Naval Air Test and Evaluation Center testing the Navy's newest aircraft. I deployed on seven different aircraft carriers, and was on five, six month deployments. All of them to the Med. I was involved in the Granada invasion of 1983 on USS Independence, and the lebanon invasion of 1984. I was very lucky to have been picked by the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, and served with them from 1989-1992. I then went to an F-14 squadron in Virginia, and was there and deployed on the USS Saratoga, and USS Enterprise until 1995. I was Promoted to Chief in 1995 and sent to the Naval Manpower Analysis center. After a good tour on shore duty, counting people, I transfered in 2000 to the Strategic Command community in Oklahoma, and retired from there in Feb 2002.
