Michael's Story

Life I quit school in march 1973 and I joined the United States Marine Corps. I wanted to serve my country as all of my family in the past had done. I had turned seventeen February 24th and I started active duty March 23, 1973. in April 1974 I got married I was eighteen years old. I was trained to be a crew chief on a CH-46 Sea Knight Helicopter and had finished the remainder of my training at Marine Corps Base Santa Ana. In October 1975 my wife and I had our first son and I was about as proud as any father could possibly be. In November of 1975 I went to Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni Japan where I took night classes and finished getting my High School Diploma. When I returned to the United States they sent me to Beaufort South Carolina. In 1977 the sent me to Virginia to attend the United States Staff NCO Academy where I received Honors as top student in my class, I visited the Pentagon to attend a meeting with the Secretary of the Navy and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. I was then taken to the House of Representatives to meet my Congressman and Senator. It was decided by Congress that I was sent to the FBI academy and finished second in my class. I returned to Beaufort South Carolina and was rejoined with my wife. We had our second son just before we moved to Memphis Tennessee where I continued school to become an Avionics Electronics Technician. After sixteen months of intensive training I was then re-assigned to Marine Corps Base El Toro as the Avionics Production Control Supervisor. I received Two Meritorious Mast from the United States Congress and received two awards from the Secretary of the Navy and delivered to me by the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. In 1984 I was promoted to E-7 Gunnery Sergeant Meritoriously. I was re-assigned to Naval intelligence Squadron (NIS) under cover Division and broke up several drug rings that were going on at both El Toro and Santa Ana, again proving my FBI training wa...Expand for more
s a success. I loved the Marine Corps and was stationed all over the world during my four enlistments. I have four Honorable Discharges and attained a rank of E-7 Gunnery Sergeant. My last duty station was Marine Corps base El Toro, where I received my final discharge. I wanted to be with my family that was living here in California and decided not to re-enlist. Both of my parents were getting older and I had already made them proud of me, so I decided to get out and start a new life. Unfortunately, my wife was upset with my decision to get out of the Marine Corps which resulted in a divorce and she got custody of both of our sons. I tried to find a wonderful girl that I fell in love with in the ninth grade, her name was Linda Diehl. The last time I saw her was at Magnolia High School when we were in the tenth grade. Her family moved to Oregon and I had no other information than that. I tried to find her by going to Magnolia High School to see if they had any records on how I could Find Linda. They sent me over to Dale Jr. High school where the records in those days were kept. The lady there refused to help me, she didn't want to violate Linda's privacy by telling me anything about her. Actually, I still have a special love for Linda Diehl even after all these years, I want her to be the happiest women in the world. Recently, on December 28th, 2006 my second wife died she was the absolute love of my life. We were together Since January 1988, I raised her son as one of my own and he still lives with me. He has a girl friend and a son. I dearly love my Grandson or I think I would have lost my mind when my wife died. I'm trying really hard to get my life back in order again. I severely injured my back at work November 2005, they forced me to quit, I had been with Emerson Electric for over fourteen years. I have to have major back surgery to my lower back to eliminate pain and walk again and maybe work again I hope. I own a home in Corona and I'm single again.
