Michael's Story
My life story seems so long and complicated. I left Crystal Lake IL and moved to Fife, WA when I was 12 after my dad passed away. I Graduated from Fife in '89 and had no clue what I wanted to be when I grew up, so I joined the Marines. I went to boot camp in San Diego, Electronics School in Memphis and North Carolina. I learned to Scuba dive also while in Memphis (very relevant to my life) I was then Stationed in El Toro, CA W/C 610 (smartest people I knew, at least on Mid crew LOL). I figured I was going to be stationed there for the rest of my Career. I started making plans to open a dive shop and take flying lessons.
That didn't work out quite as planned, as I ended up going to Japan for a year. Tons of Fun, many great memories...camping during a typhoon, Cliff and bridge jumping. Not very many sober moments, a few sobering (as Buzz flew out the 3rd story window).
As I left Japan I was able to choose 3 places and I was guaranteed to get one. I picked El Toro, Tustin CA, and Whidbey Island WA. So I was sent to Glenview IL. While in Glenview, I started Bar...Expand for more
tending at several places. And finished my enlistment.
After getting out of the Marines, I went to work for a Japanese arcade Manufacturer as their technical service manager. I realized it was a dead end job so only stayed a year. Then went into Outside sales for a manufacturer's rep firm. Did that for 2 1/2 years but hated being on the road. So I started selling cars. Yeah, I still haven't quite figured out what I want to be when I grow up!
I married Trish in 2003 after being together for 7 years. I have a wonderful 14y/0 step daughter. And the diving part, I was working towards becoming an instructor when I realized that really took the fun out of diving. But I am a Divemaster and have been to many incredible dive sites around the World and am most fascinated by the shipwrecks in the Great Lakes. I have worked closely with and been a member of the Underwater Archeology Society of Chicago. Diving is definitely a passion, so I could spend hours talking about it, but I won't.
My Wife and I currently reside in Libertyville, IL and I am so sick of the weather here!
