Life
In Summer 2006, I moved to Manhattan, Kansas (the "Little Apple," as its called out here) with my wife and daughter to take a job as a history professor at Kansas State University. Before that, I was teaching history at Dowling College on Long Island for five years, a job I began after spending too many years going to school at Stony Brook University. nd answering with a resounding "no." The chances of that happening are small, I'd say, and not everyone in Kansas sees a tornado. Then, just my luck, in June 2008 a real tornado came through the city - apparently first big one in 40 years - and wreaked havoc. Still haven't actually seen a tornado in person - I was taking cover in my basement. With any luck, it will be another 40 years before another tears through. Beyond that, life is good in the middle of Kansas.
