Michael's Story
Life
Hello,
I entered the US Marines in July,'87 and trained at Parris Island, SC, where I became a Marine in Oct. '87. I then went to infantry school in Camp LeJeune, NC,(Geiger Tigers) where I became a mortorman(I enlisted in the reserves & enrolled in CCM). During the Fall of '90 I was getting ready to graduate and move on to Montclair State, but the Marine Corps had other ideas. They sent me on an all expenses paid trip to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm.I was on the front lines when the air war began. I participated in the liberation of Kuwait w/ "Task Force Ripper" (1st Marine Division). We went through those burnin' oil fields and all that jazz people got to watch on CNN. My unit engaged the Iraqi Army in combat and took over 2000 enemy prisoners. The test of serving in combat during The Gulf War is something I am very proud of and it helped me value life and all the freedoms of this great nation.
I earned my bachelors in Poli-Sci in the spring of 95 from Montclair State University. My hobby throughout this time was playing Rugby, the greatest sport on earth. I then went on to Kean and got certified as a teacher.
I am now in my 13th yr of teaching high school and teach Military History and love it. I have coached football, basketball, soccer, and was the weightroom coach fo...Expand for more
r 5 years.
Liz Miller (PHS '87) and I were married in Aug. '98. We have 2 children, Hanna and Donovan. Liz, after several years as a social worker and staying at home with the kids, decided to change careers and become a Registered Nurse. She is now working fulltime and loves it. I earned my Masters Degree in school leadership and administration (I also have a Masters in Education, not bad for a kid who hated HS and most teachers)
Since the reunion Liz and I have reconnected w/ Sam Burdian, Ali David Najem, Doug Salemi, Scott Burdian, Ivy Rienisch and Matt Bramley. Liz and I had a great time at the reunion. The time went too quickly, so if anyone wants to keep in touch, drop us a line. Hope all is well! I guess I wrote a lot.

Military
I landed on Parris Island, SC July 27, 1987 "at zero 2", it was hot as Hell standing on those yellow footprints, but it got hotter once the training started (PLT 1083 1st Bn. "B" Co. graduated Oct 16,1987). Sgt. Russell, Sgt Sayger, Sgt Murphy, if you're out there, THANK YOU FOR KICKIN' MY ASS! and making me into a Marine, an adult and a man! Your training and leadership got me through the Gulf War, gave me the confidence to face, endure and overcome any challenge in life and to be the man, the husband, the father and the teacher I am today!
