Life
After leaving YV, I did a Jack Kerouac impression and traveled "on the road". spent a little time in New York, (missed Woodstock by about 300 miles) Hitch hiked along the California coast and lived on the beaches for nearly a year, lived in a San Francisco commune and then moved to New Mexico. After working in the Uranium fields, looking for claim jumpers, I returned to CA and worked in a factory for a few years. Got married to Claudia Neumann (YV Class of '73). Enlisted in the Army for eight years, spending three years in Germany and the last three in the Rapid Deployment Force. Two daughters born in Germany. After the Army, I went to college. Started in engineering, switched to History Major. Been teaching for twenty-three years. I'm did my second turn as a mentor teacher, full time working with eighteen new teachers. t my oldest child, who lived in China. I went to Grants, New Mexico to research Gus Rainey, whom I met in back in 1972. Gus was a local folk hero often accused of murder, and died in his 90s in the Grants NM jail while awaiting trial for a double murder. While I still have the power, Claudia and I wish to travel to at least one US and one out of country destination each year.I will try to stay out of too much trouble.
Update 2019: I have visited China (2012), Ireland (2014), Baja (2016), Scotland/England (2016) Maui (2015, 2017) Alaska (2017) Hiked Southern Utah (2018) and Australia (2018). Looking forward to celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary at Niagara Falls, Canada and soon spending a couple of weeks in Florence, Italy. Life gets in the way sometimes. I lost my brother, Charles, in 1998, my father eighteen months later, and my sisters Celeste and Rosemarie since retiring. I am handling the needs of a disabled niece. Take what we can deal with and set the rest aside.
