Michael's Story

Life Some of you may know me by my middle name Dean. Yes, my full name is Michael Dean Massey. After the 6th grade I started calling myself Michael, although those who already knew me as Dean since 6th grade at Forest Oak Annex(now called Glencrest) continued to call me Dean and the confusion I enjoyed immensely! Some of my relatives still call me by that name. Some of you folks at Brewer went to school with me at North Elementary in the 4th grade. Some of you may know my sister Laura (Missy) or my brother Cliff, both of whom also attended Brewer. 1980 was the year my family disintegrated. I went to keep my cousins while their parents went out of town for two weeks, only to have my family fall apart while I was gone. It is a strange feeling to suddenly have no home to which you can return. My belongings were packed up and I moved to my dad's place on Hallvale in White Settlement, which is why I went to Brewer that year. I was forced to join the service afterwards, and did two years before getting out at 19 and finishing high school at Wyatt, graduating in 1984. I miss graduating with everyone I went to school with since the 6th grade, but I suppose it was meant to be or it would not have happened, right? "Children pay the price for their parents' folly." That is a lesson I learned in 1980 and I do not want my children or anyone else's children to suffer the same fate. Some parents go through life and the children are dragged along like ba...Expand for more
ggage. They have to say goodbye to their friends and start fresh elsewhere. Parents forget what that was like when they were in the same situation. A girlfriend your son is mad about has to say goodbye to her and you have to watch him experience heartbreak and depression. Your daughter could be upset for days over a boy she really liked and go through the gamut of emotions. I know, I was there too. I do not know how many of you from high school will remember me, whether we were in the same grade or no, but I appreciate those of you who do. It has been too long and I would love to catch up. Thank you for being a friend. Ok. Time to kick this mule into high gear! All that baggage is one thing. After high school I put myself through business college with a major in accounting, since I have a knack for numbers. I got a job at 7-11 while going to college and worked there for a while. Then I went to working for an inventory company and that was a blast! Of course, times change and vehicles break down, so that gig ended quickly. I worked through many jobs, refining my accounting skills, and landed a job with an insurance company in 1997. That gig lasted almost 10 years before I was laid off. While there I obtained my TX claims adjuster license and I am still pursuing a career in insurance. Right now I am working as a data analyst for a behavioral healthcare company and the best part is the fact I get to work from home! A dream come true for me!
