Michael's Story

Life I graduated from RHS in 1961 and from Seattle University in 1966 with a B.S. General Science and in 1967 with a B.S. Civil Engineering. In 1965 I married Dorothy Wittenberg RHS 1961 after she graduated from the U of W in Nursing. I started driving an ice cream truck in the summer of 1961 and turned that into The Joe Confection Co. with my dad. The company is owned by one of my four sisters and her husband. The company has been in operation for 43 years. I worked at the Boeing Co. in 1966 and 1967 as a Liaison Engineer on the first 737 built. From 1967 to late 1969 I was Chief Engineer for a small company called Design Analysis Co. I started looking for work about the time Boeing started laying off 73,000 ...Expand for more
employees. There was no work in Seattle for technical types. I found a job in Portland, Oregon and moved to Vancouver WA in November 1969 and started to work for Northwest Natural Gas Company as and started in a Systems Design Engineer. I was moved to several operations supervisor positions and then became Project Engineer on a project to build a LNG (liquified natural gas) which we eventually build in Newport Oregon. I became a Vice President in March of 1983 and retired as Executive VP in December 2006. We build a vacation home in Bend Oregon that we enjoy with our three daughters and their husbands and our four grandkids. I look forward to seeing you all for our 50th class reunion. Cheers, Mike & Dorothy
