Michael's Story

MY LIFE STORY: After I graduated I work for the National Park Service at Klalock WA prior to joining the US Marine Corps IN 1962. After graduating from Navigator Flight School at MCAS Cherry Point NC I stayed at the school as an instructor till the Cuban crisis. My duty stations included MCAS Cherry Point NC, MCAS EL Toro Santa Anna CA, MCAS Iwakuni Japan, Danang Republic South Vietnam, MCAS Kaneohe Hawaii with the follwing C-130 squadrons VMGR-121, VMGR-232 as a navigator and flight instructor, NCOIC Squadron Operations. . Do to wounds received in 1970 I receive a medical retirement from the service in 1972 at the rank of a GySgt. After my retirement I worked in construction as a framer til I formed my own construction compamy in 1973 desiging and building single family homes in the San Francisco greater bay area til 1980, moved back to Washington State and then to Anchorage Alaska area for five years and then back to Washington in 1999. Sold my company in 2004.due to having to retirement. I am glad I did because because a lot of my friends in the business lost everything when the housing industry bust came. In 2004 I was in the VA Hospital in Seattle to correct complications relating to my service disability. I had to retired from construction because of my 100 percent VA disablility. In March 2011 I was back in the VA Hospital again to correct reoccurring complications. I joined the American Red Cross as a diaster services volunteer during Katrina. I have been deployed on 16 national disasters which have included wild fires, hurricanes, to...Expand for more
rnadoes and floods (three here in Washington State). I serve as a Client Services Supervisor, Logistics Supervisor, and a Disaster Assessment Manager with the Mount Rainier Chapter of the American Red Cross. I have transfered to the Port St Lucie Florida Chapter of the American Red Cross in Florida where I will assume the same duties. I really enjoy doing volunteer work with the American Red Cross helping individuals and families affected by a disaster. I am married to a beautiful woman, we have 4 girls and 4 boys who have provided us 14 great grand children. They live in Alaska, Washington, California, Delware, and Washington DC.area. Five of our children and 4 granchildren are presently serving or have served in the military I have a son who just retired from the Navy as a Senior Chief, and a daughter who retired from the Army as a LT Col. ( West Point graduate, and was a helicopters pilot in Iraq). Our youngest son with fifteen year service in the Navy was just appointed to Officer Canditate School. We lost two sons, one in1991 and the other in 1996, also a grandson in 2006 in the service of our country. We lived in the Bonney Lake WA area for over 20 years. and just purchased a nice 3 bedroom rambler with a pool in Port St Lucie Florida. If I won $100 million dollars I would set up a trust funds for all my grand children, build a house on our Washington ocean beach property, become a snow bird, travel and just continue to enjoy life . Wishing all those attending the Ballard High School 50th Class Reuinon the best of health, see you there.
