Michael's Story

Life BIO: Michael O'Harro I was born in Hollywood California and attended Hoover High School in Glendale, Calif. where I was picked "least likely to succeed." I then attended Los Angeles Valley College where I was a Chi Sigma Chi, Student Body Treasure and a Cheerleader. I then completed my education at the University of Arizona graduating with a BS degree in Business Administration. During my time on the U of A campus I was very active in student government & campus activities including President of Traditions a mens honorary, ATO Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and upon graduation was selected to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities." After college I attended the Navy Officers Candidate School in Newport RI. Upon receiving my commission as an Ensign I was deployed for a year to Japan on a TOP SECRET security mission aboard the USS Jan Joaquin County LST 1122. I was then sent to the Naval Security Station in Washington D.C. While serving there as courier to The White House & The Pentagon I started JOPA The Junior Officers Professional Association. The largest singles group in the world with about 250,000 military officers, professionals and young women as members. Upon my discharge from the Navy I opened a chain of Singles Bars and shortly thereafter Life Magazine in 1967 crowned me the “Singles King.” In 1975, I opened Tramp's in Washington D.C., one of America's first and most successful discos. I was the first person in the Disco business to have a feature story in People Magazine. In recognition of my club inovations and marketing I was honored by Billboard Magazine as the top Disco Operator and Consultant of the year and was also selected by the U.S Olympic Committee to design and operate the official Discotheque "Tramp's" at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. nt and over 7000 stockholders. I am also often recognized for my famous poster "Poverty Sucks," the largest selling poster of all time. I was the founder of the International Discothèque Association. I have been listed in Who's Who, am a charter member of the Nightclub & Bar Hall of Fame and The Disco Hall of Fame. I am an honorary member of the The National Football Players Association (NFLPA) the first non-player ever given this status. As an entrepreneur and paramount figure in the bar, nightclub and restaurant industry I remain on the advisory board of Nightclub & Bar Magazine and I have been a guest on 100s of TV and Radio shows and written up in over 1000 publications including William Manchester's book "A Social History of the United States," the "Time Life Decade Book - This Fabulous Century," The New York Times, USA Today, Money Magazine, US Magazine, Playboy, The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times to name a few. I even received national attention when I helped capture a man that was attempting to assassinate President Ronald Reagan 4 years after he was shot by John Hinckley. I have been a successful model, actor, motivational speaker and author of "Disco Concepts," a book published by Billboard Magazine. I’ve worked with production companies, film distributors, casting and advertising agencies over the years and have marketed, promoted, cast and consulted on numerous film projects. Among the films with which I’ve been involved are “Saturday Night Fever,” “King Kong,” “St. Elmo's Fire,” “Ruthless People,” “Die Hard, "Mars Attacks" and "Contact." I have been active in numerous charity works for many years including The Lung Association, The March of Dimes, The Eye Bank, American Heart Association, Special Olympics, United Way, Children Cancer Foundation and have donated over $250,000 worth of memorabilia to the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. as well as over $25,000 worth of photos to causes for handicapped and mentally retarded children.
