Michael's Story

Life Was in a dark, secure location. Suddenly, there was lots of light, someone slapped me, and life got very complicated. Fast foreward to after graduation. I joined the Air Force in March 68. Loved it so much ( except for getting shot at ) I made a career of it. Spent many years in the far east. Got married to my only wife in 1971 ( she's a native Korean ). Moved a total of 14 times during my 20 years, and had 2 daughters along the way, now 30 and 23. My older girl Melissa, is a vet tech at the animal research lab at UB. The younger, Monica, is a career student and lives at home. Hopefully she will settle on a career soon so I can start walking around the house in my underware. My most interesting assignment was 3 years on Guam, at the Joint Typhoon Warning Center. Got to fly several ti...Expand for more
mes with the Typhoon Chasers into storms. Spent every free moment snorkeling and diving and managed to aquire a fantastic shell collection. Other assignments included Viet Nam, Japan, Korea, and numerous stateside locations. After I retired in Aug 88 we moved back to NT, there's no place like home. I got a position with the National Weather Service at the Buffalo-Niagara airport as a Hydro-Meteorological Technician ( love these government jobs ). The pressure of the job can be overpowering at times, but it's extremely rewarding. The one drawback is, of course, EVERYONE hates the weatherman. Even my dog growls at me. Overall, life is great, and I'm looking towards my second and final retirement in 5 years. Then it's travel, golf, more golf, and finally, back to another dark, secure location.
