Michael's Story
Mount Tahoma friends, OK so here is like my life update:
After I graduated from Mount Tahoma, I attended University of Puget Sound and graduated in 1976 with majors in Business and Political Science. Was on the UPS Track and Field Team and lived in the Theta Chi Fraternity, aka the "Animal House."
Started my carrer working in a small sporting goods retail store in North Tacoma, owned by Joe Peyton, my Baker Jr. High 9th grade and UPS Track and Field coach.
Joined Wilson Sporting Goods in 1978 in sales and I have worked for this great company ever since. Moved to Mission Viejo, CA in Orange County in 1984, right before the L.A. Olympics. It was a very exciting time. All the best swimmers and divers in the USA all lived and trained in Mission Viejo at the "state of the art" swim complex only 1 mile from my home. I remember running down to the swim complex just to watch Greg Louganis train on the 3 meter board and 10 meter platform. He was incredible!
As crazy and immature of a person as I still am, I'm also the most stable (boring) person I know. Real scary... check this out:
1. Same wife, Miss Vicki, for 31+ years.
2. Work for Wilson Sporting Goods for 33+ years.
3. Same house for 26+ years.
YIKES!!
OK, we have 2 incredible boys:
Alek, 25, soccer, little league, roller hockey, snowboarder, stud runner and surfer in high school. Graduated in Pre Med and Business at University of Colorado and was on the CU Snowboard Club. Pretty cool, he got to snowboard several times in Europe and all over North America. He sti...Expand for more
ll lives and works in Boulder, CO. I actually think it's all about the Rocky Mountains, snowboarding and rock climbing which keeps him in Boulder, CO.
Andre, 20, our Bart Simpson. All X-Games for him growing up: Snowboarding, motorcycle motorcross, skateboarder and big time surfer. Sophomore at Cal State University San Marcos in San Diego County and he wants to major in Surfing, if there was such a thing. He likes to come home and surprise us with broken bones from some "huge air" motorcycle jump he attempted. Has the best Summer job invented, he is in his 4th year as an Orange County Ocean Lifguard. Real tough life getting paid for hanging at the beach 6/1 - 9/1 every summer.
As my boys grew up, I coached and managed every AYSO Soccer team, Little League Team, Roller Hockey Team and also started coaching Boys and Girls High School Pole Vault when Alek started high school in 2001.
As you can see, I started Masters Pole Vaulting at the age of 49. Art Thiel thinks I've lost my mind, which I assured him that every Pole Vaulter has lost their mind to do such a crazy sport.
Still good buddies with Chuckie Baby (Spencer) the MT chicken head mascot. He lives over on Lake Roosevelt in Eastern Washington.
Life is great! Orange County rocks! I love living here. I make it up to the PNW & Seattle / Tacoma 4 - 5 times a year on business or pleasure.
See everyone at the OMG 40 year reunion in August 2011 and you can decide if Chuckie and I ever grew up.
Just remember...."Why grow up.... when you can act immature forever"
