Michael's Story

Life Well, where do I start? Married 30+ years to Donna Romine from Asheville who I met in Myrtle Beach in 1973, no kids, Acadia "Katy" the 20# Maine Coon cat and dog: Gusto. Live out in McClellanville (actually Awendaw) near Buck Hall Landing (Forest Service) campground and boat landing on Bull's Bay - have for more than 20 years, now. I have been in computer services one way or another for more than 30 years, now. Spent 9 years working out of the Naval Information Warfare Center, now working at the U S Dept of Justice's Security Operations Center (hmmm - where might that be - strangely enough, right here in SC). Have spent my adult life earning various IT certifications, including MCSE, CNE2-3-4, CISSP, SANS GSEC, GCIA, GCIH & GCFA - all those security related things. I am currently working as the main intrusion detection analyst at the DOJ (yeah, hard for me to believe, too, folks!) watching everything from Puerto Rico to Guam and really enjoy my work - feel like I'm giving back a little for all I took, I guess. Still refuse to grow up, probably never will... Have spent the past 10 years doing everything we can find here in the US: kind of hard for me to go to certain places with my clearence! Favorite spots in the world: Nova Scotia, Acapulco and Costa Rico, though of course there are many more, those trips were the most fun and relaxing at the same time. Would love to get back in touch with everyone for our 40th anniversary reunion of St. Andrew's Parish HS class of 1972! It's been a long time since I've seen most of you, especially since I moved 30 miles out of town more than 20 years ago, now. Born in Charleston, lived in Charleston county all my life, but - sure has been a long strange trip, folks! I'm one of those people you just likely don't want to travel with, I think: got myself in an 8.3...Expand for more
earthquake in Mexico in 1985, hurricane Hugo ate both my houses in 1989 (the federal memorial is at the base of my driveway), managed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time on Quattro de Mayo of 1999 when I busted my lower back and crushed my right wrist in an airplane landing "incident" (I'm not allowed to call it an accident) and seem to have developed a nice case of tinnitus here for my birthday just a couple of months back (Dec 15) when I was over-exposed to a fire horn that was "only going to be a second" but seems to have lasted for about 18 minutes. Oh, well - enough carping about how life has treated me - I'm alive, I'm happy, and I'm still crazy as hell... What more could I ask for? School Graduated from St. Andrews Parish HS in 1972, went to College of Charleston from 1973 to 1975 and finished it up (working full time)during night school in Computer Science in 1982-84. Taught CS there in 1986-88, have taught courses at the Citadel, Naval War College in Newport RI, Top Gun school in Fallon NV member of the SC Bar's Continuing Legal Education faculty and pontificate there upon occasion mostly on Computer Animated Accident Reconstruction, and also taught some SANS (Systems and Network Security) Institute classes in and around Charleston and Columbia. Workplace Well, too much to list, really: Key jobs: Asst Director of DP for Charleston County School District for 5 years, ran my own computer build/repair/bust company for 3 years, spent 9 years at SPAWAR in the Naval Information Warfare Command center, now working at US Dept of Justice SOC (Security Operations Center) and very happy with what I do. Military My lucky # was 4 the year I graduated from St A, but - they missed me. By the way, I've twisted that picture every which way but right, obviously.
