Michael's Story
Hindsight is 20/20 on somethings:
Highschool, part of me would still like to do over, just because I did not try. I played connect the dots on a test I thought did not matter and ended up in special ed for half a semester. It took begging on my knees to get out of that.
I think I broke my hand like three times because I could not express myself any other way then to hit things. I saw my father hit my mother, so I never hit a girl I was going out with. Well I pushed one, once, when I was blacked out.
I think if it had not been for weight training classes, and sports. I would have been in a ton of trouble, and am real surprised I was not in more then I was.
Well for academics and social reasons I would have liked a do over. I think the school gift wrapped me for my recruiter though. Just to get rid of me...
Military, I ran into a few guys I played football with and told them a little of what I was doing. They were not surprised, because I always did what I was told during practices.
I had a good time for a more then a few years. Beating on my body with no breaks off for good behavior started catching up on it. I caught an ACL tear of all things playing flag f...Expand for more
ootball in a game that I should not have been available to play in.
I was on jump status and I kept having to jump before it was all the way healed. It was a viscous circle.
Healing cycle got long and drawn out. I had a chance to receive a full semester at college if I volunteered for a new unit when I was better.
I did.... yada yada yada, time goes on. I got married. We had a little girl, who still has me twisted around he fingers. I was gone a lot, when I came home I could not deal with being home, and went right back out the door. Either to a bar or a deployment which ever I could get to faster.
This became a problem, I had one problem after another. I asked for help 8 May 1989, and against their better judgement, they sent me off to get help.
I never let them down, I was injured and later got out, and am now 100% disabled. I would still like to do highschool different, there is a 00B screening test I screwed up, I would like to redo.
