Michael's Story
After surviving Bonita Vista, I wandered over to San Diego State to pursue journalism and business; not a bad idea as I was already publishing The Bonita Post. I was photo editor on the daily campus newspaper, The Daily Aztec for 3 1/2 years and a photographer when not an editor. Founded Ad Campigns North, an ad agency & PR firm. Became a RE Broker and worked for McMillan in Bonita for a while and then established my land acquisition & R.E.consulting business.
Got married to Shelly Johnson, a CA transplant from Fargo, ND. Had some great years, but outside influences got in the way. Did some auto racing with Porsche but quit when other drivers no longer cared if they wrecked or not (or ran into you.)
Became a general aviation pilot and activist in aviation safety, first incorporating the FAA Accident Prevention Counselors and holding flight safety seminars.
Married again and had a nice collection of horses in RSF. Active in competitive archery, photography and live in Solana Beach.
Established another corporation dealing with asset management and litigation support. Was joined by Dave Ragland (BVHS)as VP of Engineering. Later Dave & I reconnected at another engineering firm and I joined up to be a project manager and municipal consultant and public works/engineering construction inspector.
Currently working on three books, including a cookbook titled "Thirty easy meals for Engineers and other guys who can't get dates." I am still actively involved in photography, music, track & field and travel extensively.
Reunited with some dear friends like Chris Kotitsa, Kelly Tarbox, Leonard Cox, Kathy Ogilvie, Sheryl Hulsey and Kelly Tarbox at some mini-reunions. What fun! Also have reunited with some old friends from Vista (from 3rd to 9th grade)like Wynn Breen, Mike Kratz, Theresa Smith, David Klein, Mark Anderson,Gordon Jenkins and Sharon Humphries.
More to come. Check out the photo albums....you might be in there. I am also working on a DVD compilation of all my photos from Bonita (lots) plus some other shots from the BVHS newspaper and Annual from years past. If you have a good annua...Expand for more
l from 1972 BVHS, I like to scan it for re-distribution to fellow classmates who can't find theirs.
I have just acquired the Annuals from Vista High School (1971 & 1972) for scanning. They will be added to the collecion including the 35 year reunion booklet.
A a special note to all my friends....quit dying.
Went to the Barry Manilow opening at Paris. Front row, center. Plus the aftershow (photos to follow) this last weekend. March 6, 2010. Lot's of travel. Emerson, Lake & Palmer's first show in decades in England in June. Enroute to London and then off to Hawaii for a few weeks of R&R. Hand delivering a fix for the oil spill to BP corporate offices while in GB. Still in love with Spain and Portugal. Remember this company.... International Flow Technologies. They are very good at stopping leaks. If only the Chinese will loan out their deep sea submersible that can turn bolts under high pressure.
After all these years of solving problems, I am truly amazed by the amount of ignorance that promulgates society. Christian this....Moslem that..... Don't forget the Jews.....and all the other (inclusive of the three already stated) religions that do nothing but embellish poverty...seek government control or influence.....and promote a world of antiquity. As long as they are tax-exempt. Be the first on your block to form a new religion. Quite frankly, I side with Stephen Hawking's concepts. Religion.... what a waste of time and money.
Meanwhile...I really recommend a trip to the UK. The western Hebrides (west coast of Scotland) are remarkable as is all of Ireland. Travel more...experience life and peoples you have only read about. Make them your friends. Love more and hate less. Vote Democratic. Vote against the party of "No."
Oh, by the way, my yearbooks for Vista (1969-72) and Bonita Vista (1969-72) are going to be printed on Classmates. If any of you out there have any objections to publishing what was written in them, please advise accordingly....although all statutes of limitations that may have been inferred or applied are bared by laches. Hence any editing will be under my perview.
