Michael's Story

High School was an interesting time of growing up and maturing and self discovery. That time in your life when you start caring less about what others think of you, and start establishing your own self idenity and who you want to become. I wasn't the most gifted student, but I took classes above my level and studied hard and worked just to get B's and C's. I was pretty frustrated most of my high school years. Later in life though, it paid off. After Reseda High, I attended CSUN, Pierce, and over amany years, finally received my AA degree from Antelope Valley College in 1999. Over the years, I worked for my fathers appliance business, a telecommunications company, Thrifty Drug Store as an assistant manager, and then finally when the door opened into the water utility industry. I married the love of my life Nancy in 1983, we have two grown children now, one in college, the other finishing his last year of high school. We lived (on love) the first few years in Canoga Park before buying a house in Palmdale. We have lived the last 13 years in the Paso Robles area, which is near Hearst Castle, if that helps any. The treatment plant I work at is just down the road from where James Dean died in his in...Expand for more
famous car crash. I am a water treatment operator by trade. What I do is take dirty surface water off of the adequect system and treat it with various chemicals and make it safe to drink for the public of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. The job is very rewarding, but the hours and shift work is very long. As I write this, I am working the week of Christmas, and we will be making adjustments as a family. Faith is an important part of who I am, just as it was when I was in high school, I still am active in a local church, I teach a small bible study group, and help with drama and in other small things as my schedule permits. I am a believer in letting our faith being seen in our actions and allowing others the freedom to do with it as the so choose. I have a lot of freedom to do the things I want, and faith is not jsut a rulebook of "don'ts" but much more so of "do's" to helping others, showing kindness, finding the joy in life. I am a big sports fan, love my local LA sports teams, love to read, love to exercise, work out, try to stay in shape if I can. Looking forward to seeing some of you at the reunioun, though my memory is somewhat sketchy at best. Thanks for reading. Mike S.
