Michael Turnbull:

CLASS OF 1980
Shilo, MB

Michael's Story

Well what can I say! Life never turns out as planned. After High School I stayed around Shilo / Sprucewoods for a few years, worked at Canex in various positions (I will always love the ladies at the Expressmart for putting up with me) and went to ACC the BU worked part time for the RM of Cornwallis as a Constable. Nothing really serious, no direction. During this time I got to know my wife (of 30+ years now) Elaine (Lewis) better and married her in 1987 (the smartest thing I ever did). We went up North with the Hudson's Bay Company for about 18 months, and ran back south when the opportunity presented itself for a Policing job in Rivers, MB. We have two Children Kyle (son) born in 1988 and Quinn (daughter) born in 1990. Unfortunately I missed most of their upbringing as I was working 24-7 on call as a police constable in a small town. One of my biggest regrets in life. Elaine is a real trooper and has done a good job raising them... :-) Anyway, I got a great offer from the Chief who is a friend on the Altona Police to come down here and work for him as a Senior Constable in 2006 and did not look back. Great people and the best job in the world! They put me to pasture as the Sgt. here in 2015 after 31 years of policing in Manitoba. Sometimes change is good. I am sure there are teachers at PEHS that would turn over in their graves knowing I had pursued a job policing. Or at least have a good laugh. Elaine and I both had Yamaha "Cruiser" motorcycles that we bought a few years ago in order to better enjoy our new found freedom from work and empty nest. But sadly had to sell them after I had two reconstructive neck surgeries to repair injuries/damage from incidents while working, I am still working on my 1939 Chevy Hot Rod that I have had for...Expand for more
about 25 years now, I am about 1/2 done and hoped to have it on the road for retirement in 2014, but that is on hold while I try to heal. Yeah for everyone that remembers or cares I have never given up cars. I still love building and fabricating hot rods and the rumble of a Chevy V-8. I used to spend every fall out at my brother-in-laws potato farm in Carberry helping with harvest driving trucks & fixing stuff. So every time you have that MacDonalds fry know I got really dirty for it... We have two rescue dogs and still one of the beagles who are a form of cheap entertainment. Just house pets who think they are human. How does that happen? My sister Michelle whom you may remember is just up the road from us in Morden, she was the Dietician in the Broundary Trails Hospital for years and moved onto a position with Manitoba Health in Winnipeg. She is married to a great guy John and they are always there for us!. Dad was in a nursing home in Morden until he passed away in 2011. He was with us for a number of years in Rivers before moving down here. Mom still jets back and forth between Manitoba and Nova Scotia. Mom and Dad left the Shilo area in 1989 to return to their home in Nova Scotia, Anyway, this is a Coles notes version of life to present (yes Mr. Grant, I admit now I never read the Red Badge of Courage or any other book you assigned just the Coles notes version) No wait! I guess that was always reflected in my marks... Sigh! you knew! :-) Hi to everyone who touched my life and that of Elaine while in Shilo, we still have fond memories of growing up on and around the base. How lucky were we all really? What a great safe environment to grow up in? Someday before we all die off we need to have a reunion guys. I'll be back!
