Mike's Story
A couple of milestones are approaching in 2011. In August of 2011, I'll reach 65
and retire from a 43 year retail sales, buying and management career. My wife, Cindy, of
40 years will teach 1 or 2 more years at St. Joan of Arc Elementary school. We met in college.
In 2016, Cindy and I will celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary in November. Two years ago, I joined a Whitmer Breakfast Club at the urging of Dale Homer, a '64 alumni. 12 classmates from the Class of '64 at Whitmer religiously attend breakfast on the first Monday of each month at Bob Evans on Monroe and Harvest Lane. All are retirees, mainly from the Alexis Rd. Chevrolet Hydra-matic plant. These fellows speak highly of Harold Huff, deceased. Harold was head of training at the plant. He instructed all workers how to assemble a transmission.
Cindy's DeVilbiss' Class of 1967 has not had class reunions beyond the 10 year. We both are members of the University of Toledo Alumni Association.
Rob Krieger recruited me for BNO, Boys Night Out, which schedule's a dinner at a different non-chain restaurant every Tuesday evening. The group is very generous in its annual contributions to th...Expand for more

Our 3 sons, after completing masters' degree studies, found work in their fields in
Cleveland, Houston and Dayton. Two are married. We have 4 grand children.
In retirement, I hope to golf more often, catch up on reading, visit sons/grandchildren and travel in the US and Canada. I still enjoy
following Whitmer sports, Univ. of Toledo sports, the Detroit Tigers and Lions progress and
bike -riding with Cindy on Toledo's excellent walking/riding trails. We also enjoy visits to my
sister Pat's and Tom Kwiatkowski's [from class of '64 at Whitmer] summer home at Clark Lake in
Michigan. I also enjoy FOX TV and keeping up with 5 siblings scattered around the country.
For the past 15 years, I have worked on the Whitmer Class of '64 Reunion
Committee. For 20 years, I was employed at the Appliance Center in
Maumee, Ohio. My retail career began at the Lion Store and continued J L Hudson's and
Highland Superstores. before joining Appliance Center.
Since retiring in August, 2011, I found a perfect 15 hour per week part-time job working
as a courier with Signature Bank NA in Toledo. So I'm just semi-retired but enjoying
every free minute.
