Michael's Story
I enrolled at Nevada Southern University (now UNLV) after graduating from Rancho High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, and flunked everything I took except PE (bowling). A classmate and I decided it was time to try something else and joined the Army together. Three years later, I had experienced the building of the Berlin Wall first hand as a member of an intelligence unit in Germany and was rewarded with four extra months for the honor.
Leaving the Army, I returned to NSU part time for four years and became active in the Newman Club. I was eventually elected President of the national organization and moved to Washington, D.C. to serve my term. There, I was involved with heads of other youth and student organizations in our country and around the world.
I met my first wife there, we moved to New York City after we were married, and I finished my degree at City College of New York. We had two children and eventually moved to Madis...Expand for more
on, Wisconsin for ten years and Berkeley, California for nine. Gradually, after twenty years, we had grown apart and divorced in 1987.
I had been involved in sales and marketing during the early days of health maintenance organizations (HMOs), and continued that career ¿ eventually settling in San Diego, California and working for Kaiser Permanente ¿ where I met my wife, Sharla, a Marriage and Family Counselor. We married in 1997 and together have four children and seven grand children. I completed my master¿s degree in business at the University of Phoenix in 1997.
I have been retired from sales and marketing since 2000, but have continued to work at various jobs in the community to keep active. I am currently beginning a training program in mediation and conflict resolution, which I hope will lead to a new career. I don¿t ever expect to stop working. My hobbies include photography, race walking, camping and traveling.
