Michael's Story
Hey Everyone!
Wow, This is pretty cool. My Store Manager said I should check out this website. I have caught up with several old classmates I haven't heard from since High School! If you want to read a good story, visit our class president's profile on this site. Kirk King is still pretty funny!
Here is my story for the past 30 years!
After High School, I was a draftsman in Ft. Wayne for United Technology. I went to I.U. there for a couple of years and became an E.M.T. as a summer job and loved it. I worked for Jay County EMS for a couple of years.
I kept n touch with Mark Grider and he said the Navy was good and San Diego was great so I went into the Navy where I was an AW/ Search & Rescue Crewman in SH-2F Helocopters based out of North Island in San Diego. Mark was right, it was too much fun. I traveld the world and did alot of stuff I wouldn't have been able to do then. I did that for 9 years. I met my first wife on a ski trip to Big Bear. That marraige didn't pan out as planned, unless you go into a marraige with the plan for it not to work!!! Not my plan at the time but it's a good thing in retrospect, just ask Mark, on second thought, don't ask Mark!!!!
Anyway! I dicided to move on from the Military at that point, Marriage ended and it was time for a change! I went into Retail Investigations with F.W. Woolworth in San Fransisco. Within a year I was promoted to Regional Loss Prevention Coordinator and they moved me to Hawaii. I lived there for 6 years and it was one of the best times of my life. I had over 450 stores as far east as Texas and it was a blast!
While in Hawaii, I met wife #2. Woolworth folded and we moved to Las Vegas, got married and I started my own Brokerage business there. It was fun but I needed to get back to working with real people! I gave the business to her oldest son and I took a job with Target as an APTL. We did retail investigations, worked theft rings in Vegas and it w...Expand for more
as fun.
After a couple of years, my best friend from Hawaii called me and asked if I would move to Maui and run one of the stores he was in charge of. The plan was to learn as much as we could so we could buy our own store. I moved to Kihei, Maui and ran an Ace Hardware store there for one year. It was great.
In November of 1999, we purchased our own Ace Hardware store in Santa Rosa, CA. and I have been here ever since. Oh, the year away from wife #2, she refused to come with me but encouraged me to go, caused us to split. She ended up with our mail man during my stay in Maui, if only she had said something, I could have had even more fun while I was there!!!! That is a long and interesting story that usually requires adult beverages to tell!!!
I met my present wife on Match.com. She is an MFT so I figured I could'nt go wrong there! She has two daughters, 17 and 16. The younger one lives with her dad in Orange County. The 17 year old lives with us. She is a Volleyball player and she just got her drivers liscense. Very Scary!!!! We have been married for 5 years now and it is going pretty good. She has two private practices and together we play around in Real Estate in our spare time!
I never had children of my own and haven't really had anything too major happen to me. I guess I could say, life has been pretty good to me overall!
I am looking forward to the 30 year reunion. On the 25th, a bunch of us got together and played golf at Portland. We kicked off the couse on the back nine. The Marshal didn't have a sence of humor I guess! I forgot how obnocxious our class was. Good to see some things never change!!! Anyway, I plan to set up another round this time as soon as we figure out when it is! Let me know if you want to play!!!
