Michael's Story
What I've been through I would not wish on anyone.The negative, a lifelong battle with drugs and alcohol. The loss of my mother and best friend(Archie Thompson) just months apart. On the positive side, I will graduate with my A.S. in December, have been clean and sober almost a year and am currently completing my internship with a local law firm. Life has been hard and the road rough at times but without all of these things happening in my life god knows where I would have ended up. Let me give you a brief play by play of what happened when I left school in 1978. doing what I wanted to do which was nothing. It was the disco era and me and Milt Wilkins, Nancy Strange and others were partying hard.I did that for several years and then to make a long story short, preceeded to ruin my life for the next 20+ yrs. I quess the turning point was a few months after mom passed away and life was unbearable I checked myself into detox and began life anew. That was Feb. 18, 2009 and life hasn't been quite the same since. I work on Captiva Island at a beautiful resort called South Seas. I am actively involved in my homegroup "Tough Love" and I have tons of AA friends as well as friends in regular life. Life isn't always peachy but it's a hell of a lot better than it used to be.
