Michael's Story
Life
I left Houston right after high school in 1975. I volunteered close to the end of the Vietnam war, joined the Air Force.
My dreams were to become a flyboy and the only thing I got to fly was a typewriter or a telex machine! LOL
The first base on my dream list was Los Angeles Air Station. Instead I was sent to Norton Air Force Base in lovely San Bernardino, CA. I used to refer to the place as the "arm pit of Southern California!"
I was stationed at Norton for 5 years! Woo Hoo!
As my duty at Norton ended I found myself wondering where I would go. I went East! Philadelphia, PA! City of Brotherly Love!
I loved Philly. So much history......then it began to snow!
I flew South to Florida. Lakeland, Fla. Couldn't land a job there so, back to Houston I went.
I spent some time in Houston but, I wasn't happy and I f...Expand for more
ound myself dreaming of those warm Southern California Days and nights.
In 1985 I moved back to California. Rang up an old Air Force buddy.
He offered me a place to live so that I could find a job.
I moved to Long Beach, CA. This used be a party city for me back when I was in the military.
Boy, had it changed!
The average temp in Long Beach is 70 degrees year round! SWEET!
The city is built on a Southern facing beach (the only one in California).
I have been working in the Stevedoring industry for over twenty years.
Currently, I am the Telecommunications Manager for a Stevedore Operator/Terminal. (The guys that load and off load those boxes on the back of trucks you see on the freeway).
Yeah, I work on the docks! It's great! You couldn't ask for anything more.....Blue skies and and warm ocean breezes.
