Michael's Story
Moved to Vermont for college and fell in love with the place. We raised two great daughters who continue to amaze me. I've been keeping bees in Vermont for the last 40 years, commercially for most of that time. Now that the kids are gone, most of my focus is on my queen breeding program. While the honey crop pays the bills, raising queens is my passion. Fortunate I live in the Champlain valley...another land of milk and honey. My queens go all over the country, from Georgia to Oregon, and to Universities like Penn State, Cornell, and Georgia. I'm having an absolute blast doing what I do and don't plan on retiring...ever. We'll see.
In addition to my bee work, I'm very involved with teaching beekeepers a sustainable approach to their craft. During the cold months...seemingly forever here in Vermont...I travel to beekee...Expand for more
per's meetings presenting my work to the membership. I was in Southwest and the West Midlands of England this past October, as the keynote at the National Honey Show in Weybridge. After the big show, I was invited to several local bee clubs in Somerset, Worcestershire, and Shropshire for beekeeper gatherings, and tours of the local countryside. Nothing like being shown the area by the folks that live there. I did fall in love with those green fields and the hedgerows and the heather on the moors. I am a beekeeper after all.
Anyway, the National recorded my presentations and posted them to youtube. You can see what I'm up to.
the national honey show/education tab/lectures. I don't have a photo in my profile, but this should do.
Anyone else here keeping bees should get in touch. I'm on the web. Would enjoy a chat.
