Michael's Story
Well I guess I have reached that time in life for nostalgia. While my life travels have kept me away from western Nebraska, I remember so many from my years in Gering fondly. After graduating, I left for the University of Minnesota where I completed both undergraduate school and medical school, my nearly lifelong goal. During medical school, I met my lovely wife, Barbara, who has put up with me for over 40 years! Sometimes I wonder why. In 1979, we relocated to Madison, Wisconsin where I completed my residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin before going to the University of Iowa, where I completed training in Pulmonary and Critical Care medicine. we raised our two sons. In 2002 I was fortunate to be selected as the Chief of Medicine for the UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program. In 2015, I was selected as the Interim Associate Dean for the program and in 2016 as the permanent Associate Dean for UCSF Fresno. It has been an amazing experience to train future doctors for the last 30 years. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Our two sons, Nick and Brandon are doing well. Nick lives in Riverside, California, with his wife and two sons and works as a wildlife biologist for the state. Brandon lives in Kalispell, MT, and works as the general manager for the Holiday Inn Express. If you are visiting Glacier, stop in and say hello. I hope to connect with many of you, and hope I can make a future reunion.
