Michael's Story
Life
I am married to a wonderful woman,"Marie". Her and I have 4 children between us. And 13 Grandchildren. I just got transfered to Eugene,OR. from Reno,NV. in the US Post Office. I work in Maintenance on the buildings systems. We are living in a 34' 5th wheel trailer in "Premier RV Resort. Our Daughter and 5 grandchildren are living in our home in Reno until our Granddaughter graduates next year (2006). We have two dogs,"Hidee and Lil girl". And two cats, "Babe and Morris". I now have 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. That really makes me fill old.
Workplace
After High School I worked for Josephine County Road. In Feb. 1972 I joined the US Navy. I retired from the Navy in 1992 in Reno, NV.. I was an Assistant Manager for a Distribution Center for 5 years. I then was called to the Post Office from a testing I had taken back in 1994. I have been with the post office for the past 8 years. Since moving to the Post Office in Eugene 2005, I also work at the "Premier RV Resort" doing various maintenance tasks. We are at this time expanding the Park by 38 more sites from 151 to 189 sites. ully retired on the 30th of April from the Post Office after 20.5 years..
Military
My first ship was the USS Sperry AS-12 a Submarine Repair Ship.
My Second ship was the USS Towers DDG-9 a Guided Missle Destroyer.
I then went to shore Duty at SIMA Shore Intermidiate Maintenance Activity where I worked in the pipe shop. I replaced old piping systems on various ships Arc and Gas Welding new systems together then installing them on the ship with insulation around the high temp.and pressure systems. I then commissioned a NEW Destroyer, the USS Fife DD-991 Spruance Class Destroyer with Gas turbine jet engines. I then was stationed at NAB Coronado (Naval Amphibian Base). My last cruise was aboard the USS Jouett CG-29 a Guided Missle Cruiser. I then went to FTG Fleet Training Group where I taught fire fighting and damage control to every ship on the west coast. I then finished my career at COMDESRON 33. Commander Destroyer Squadron 33. We had 19 ships in the squadron when I first started. I finshed by doing a paper work shuffel transfer to Fallon, NV. for teminal leave and retire out of Nevada instead of California.
