Michael (Kip)'s Story
Life
After high school I attended Phoenix College and received an AA degree in Electronic Engineering Technology. While working as an electronic technician I continue my education & received my BS in electrical engineering in 1986 and started work as a RF and Microwave design engineer. While working I again continued my education & received my MS in engineering in 1996. I have worked for Motorola/General Dynamics for 33 years. During this time I have worked on communication equipment for the Hubbell Space Telescope, Iridium satellite system (a satellite based cellular phone system) and other space communication systems. I have worked on the design of several other systems and components including cellular phones, location systems and two-way radio components. I am presently disabled due to kidney failure and Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia.I have just finished my 2nd round of chemo and it appears to be working. formed.
I met my wife at a church camp in Prescott in 1973 and we were married in 1975. My wife is a special education teacher. (I canÂt believe the number of engineers that marry teachers.) We have one child, a 30-year-old son. He attended New Mexico Institute of Mining & Technology and received a BS in Chemical Engineering.
Workplace
Worked at Motorola as a technician after graduating from Phoenix College in 1974. I was laid off in 1974 and went to work at a 7-11 until I got a job at Omni-Spectra in early 1975. Worked there until I went to work in 1976 for Motorola. Omni-Spectra offered me more money and better position; I returned in 1977. Returned to Motorola in 1979 and; have been there ever since. I worked as a technician until I graduated from ASU with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1986 when I was promoted to an engineer. Have continued with my education and obtained a Masters in engineering in 1996. My division was sold to General Dynamics in 2001. I went on disability in April 2011.
