Michele's Story
Life
Long Beach, California
For the past several years I have lived in beautiful Long Beach California. The largest port on the west coast sits bountifully on the northern shore of Long Beach.
In 2004 there was a huge lottery held by Pacific Maritime Association to assimilate a big number of applicants. From what I understand there was a lot of nepatism and the general public was unable to apply, they needed an application, which was usually given to a relative or close friend. Some applications were even sold.
And in this lottery my name was chosed as #11,893.
Early in 2006 my mother decided she wanted to retire and on Aug 4th I recieved my letter of processing for PMA. December 15th we closed escrow on Cafe Valentino and dissolved our corporation. I took my first vacation in 7 yrs. The ten years of Cafe Valentino were some of the best years of my life.

coastal, central and community oriented. Wonderful golf courses close by...the Pike in downtown, Long Beach Airport and Belmont Shores. What a great community.

Military
It was a lot like the movie Private Benjamin...except it was Private Barnes...! I wore combat boots, bdu's and a hat! A helmet and an M-60 at times...but met some amazing people along the way while I was stationed at the 61st Military Police Company in Hanau Germany, home of 3rd Armored Division. Life on a kaserne in the woods where you could hear actual Koo Koo birds, like on a Koo Koo clock. Lots of german beer, great open air concerts and train travel all over Europe. My life as a military police/company clerk forever changed my life, opening new doors at every turn. The color Kelly green, ug, push ups, sit-ups and formation. Lots of good times, good people and life in the military.
