Michele's Story
Life
I married my longtime boyfriend, David Janson. We were married for 23 years. David and I had 4 kids--3 of our own:2 sons, Joey(31) and Jason,(28) and 1 daughter, Leona(17), and 1 adopted daughter, Tina(36). David died in 1990.
In 1991, I met Guy Strahl(Castro Valley High School-Class of "71). We've been together ever since. I acquired 2 step-children: Guy W.(30) and Candice (29).
Together, we have 14 grandchildren, ranging in age from 18 to 6.
I'm semi-retired. I have income property and stay involved with my friends and co-workers from Modesto Junior College.
In 1997, my life changed dramatically when I was diagnosed with cancer. After several bouts with the "Big C", it's currently in remission thanks to chemo, radiation therapies, and fantastic doctors. My family was great during this time, especially my mom (she passed away in December of 2004) and Guy. Guy has retired due to health issues, so much of my time is spent caring for him and thinking of ways to spend money! It's good for me that he doesn't care how I spend the money. It's not his thing.
Guy and I are raising our 6 yr. old granddaughter, Ashley. She keeps both of us quite busy....Expand for more
Grammy and Papa spend a lot of time and money on her. She keeps us both young at heart anyway. It isn't something that I planned on doing in my later years, but sometimes grandparents just do what is necessary. I'm glad that we did!
We're thinking of moving out of state in the very near future--UTAH. There's a small town outside of Grand Junction, Colorado where my brother-in-law and his wife have moved that seems promissing--Price. However, the population is only 7000. I like small towns but not isolation. But, property values are affordable and the quality is great--2 to 3 times the square footage as California property at a third of the cost. Since both of us are kinda retired, it doesn't matter where we live; the checks still come in. Ha! Ha!
We currently live in Modesto, California. I've lived here for 20 years. It's a nice place to live, but it's growing very fast. We have a 3bdrm., 2ba. home with a swimming pool, 8 vehicles, 1 Harley, 2 dogs and 6 cats. We love to travel, visit our friends, and embarrass & avoid our kids. We enjoy each other very much.
I'm constantly amazed at how many people I know from the Bay Area that have moved here.
