Michele Schryver:

CLASS OF 1966

Michele's Story

I am living in the San Antonio Texas region. Married 33 years to William Schryver, retired Army officer. Our family includes 5 children, 7 grandhildren and 7 great-grandchildren. After high school, I joined the Army and served as a dental assistant before moving into Special Services and entertaining the troops. We did plays, concerts, variety shows, and staged entertainment contests. But Army life nearly did me in. I had pneumonia every 3 to 6 months. Seems my heart is okay but I have a poor set of lungs. Still a serious health issue in my life. And I will tell you it is very difficult to project one's voice over an open field when breathing is an issue. We did a lot of shows in the field where the men were training. The guys were always very polite and gave us grand applause whether they heard me or not. I used my VA benefits to fund my education (BS in Psychology). Traveled all over the country. Marriage to an Army officer will tend to do that. Visited London several times as well as Paris and Mexico City. Lived on the Mexican border in the 70's and spent a lot of leisure time in Mexico. Raised Quarter horses and Welsh ponies at different times in my life. My daughter, Belinda, became an excellent horsewoman and breeds Welsh ponies. So horse shows were very important at one time. a ton of work with our kids in 4-H and then in Boy Scouts. I spent a lot of years working in Human Services in Pennsylvania. Started a family resource center. And volunteered five years with a non-profit cancer support network. Just recently, I was Executive Director for a non-profit education foundation where I staged concerts as fund raisers. I had concerts with Three Dog Night and Blood Sweat and Tears. Didn't get to spend much time with TDN but carted Blood Sweat and Tears around all weekend. All of them were great guys and great talents. Turns out Bill went to high school with Katz, founder of BST. Small world. Not doing too much lately. Bill and I try to get out every weekend and go somewhere on our motorcycles. He rides a big Kawasaki and I ride a Yamaha V Star Classic. I have been riding about 25 years now. Lots of stories there. We hope to get out to Big Bend on the bikes but it has been too hot and dry. We zip off to Corpus Christi and the Gulf instead. I haven't done any great or noble things. I did some theater work with some wonerful people across the country and while it was fun, my heart wasn't in it. I am proudest of my volunteer work with cancer patients. I felt like I was making a difference. I've grown old and fat but I am very happy. Drop me a line and say hello.
