Michele's Story

After graduating college at Western Michigan University in 1989, I moved to Hawaii where I lived for eighteen years. During that time, I worked for the Hawaii State Legislature and on a Navy ordnance clean-up project on the island of Kahoolawe (the Navy's bombing site for over 40 years); paddled outrigger canoe and spent a lot of time on the beach just loving Hawaii; but, most importantly, I met my husband, Eric (and moved to Maui), and gave birth to our two children, Dakota and Sierra, in 2...Expand for more
005 and 2006. Before deciding to be a stay-at-home-mom, I made a career change and started working as a massage therapist. And, a year and a half ago, we started a new chapter in our lives by moving from Hawaii to Southern California because of my husband's job change. It's been difficult leaving Hawaii and all of my family there (my immediate family left Michigan and moved to Hawaii too), but there's good things to living back on the mainland too.
