Micheline's Story
After graduation from St Ann's, I got a B.A. from Uvic and a PhD from UBC. I met and married David while both of us were still students. It was a good marriage which should never have ended. It did end because David read Open Marriage. Spouses should live under the same roof. We drifted apart. I had already started my own career as a teacher, first a Ryerson University, then at McMaster and finally at StFX University in Nova Scotia.
I retired early and now live in the town where I was born, Sherbrooke, Quebec. I've returned to undergraduate work so I could study music. As well, In the early 1990s, I became a professional artist, but music is now my main occupation. David died in August 2001. I still miss him and I also miss my students. I learned so much from them and simply loved them.

nd the Dean of Arts would not replace me. As a result, my case manager at the Insurance Company looked upon my claim for disability benefits as fraudulent. The sale of my house was contingent on my receiving permanent disability benefits. The doctor I was sent to, by my case manager, asked asked her to tell me not to sell my house and leave Antigonish as I would recover sufficiently to return to a reasonable workload. She paid no attention to his request and led me to believe my application had been approved as worded: "will not recover." So I sold a house that was not for sale. The loss of my house made returning to work very difficult.
Would that I had returned! I tried, but the Vice-President stood in my way because he thought my illness had inconvenienced my colleagues. I had been away for a mere ten days or so. So I could not have inconvenienced anyone to a significant extent.
