Michelle's Story

I married shortly after High School to a serviceman from Illinois. When he got out, we came to Illinois and made our home. I had 2 daughters (now age 38, and 36). They have given me 4 wonderful grandchildren to enjoy. Unfortunate that my marraige ended against my beliefs, and life does go on, and so did I. It's funny my first real job after HS was with an Insurance company, and that is what I seemed to go back to. That, and selling Avon of course for many years. In fact I was the #3 rep in Illinois Dist. I remarried my present husband, and together counting his previous kids and mine, we had 5 children, and the Doctor's told me I couldn't have any more kids, so I was persuing a career in the Insurance field, and WHAM!!! guess what? The Doctor's were wrong... and wrong 4 more times- 3 sons, 1 daughter, (now ages 28, 27, 26, and 25) instantly we had 9 children now and our household was huge. It was always a mystery to me at what would be next. I survived, but who knows how, with actually part of my brain in tact, and when my Dad passed away in 1994 I made my last trip to Wakefield. It felt bittersweet. I always thought I would return someday as my heart was always there. When we returned to Illinois I secured another insurance job, and this time I became a licensed insurance agent. I did rather well for about 7 years, and I don't even remember why, but I left the field, and went into pool chemical sales, selling to major hotels across the US. It was a big switch, but somehow I always gravitated towards these sales jobs (Avon, insurance, pool chemicals). All things I had vast knowledge of. I guess that is why I was so good at it. A few years later, my knees began to bother me, and shortly after having surge...Expand for more
ry, the progression got worse. I refused to give in until 2005 when I took a fall, and resigned myself to the fact I was disabled. Not quite wheelchair disabled, but almost. My brain still sees me as active, and able, but my body unfortunately will not cooperate. As the years have progressed, so has the pain and the ability for freedom of movement. In fact I finally sold a car I had driven for 20 years, just this past year. My mobility includes going to the store for short trips, supervised, and once in a blue moon an outing or two. I take each day at a time. What I used to do in an hour, takes me several, but I keep trying, and some days are wonderful, others are not. If I have a wonderful day I really enjoy it. I do still run the household, and cook and clean, and my leisure time which is a lot, is spent on the computer keeping in touch with people, and playing games on pogo, or GSN, and every now and then we get visits from the kids, and grandkids. My husband and I are married almost 30 years now, and I do thank God every day for all that I have. If I had my life to relive all over again, I would not change very much. I made some mistakes, but tried to make them only once. I would love to have traveled a bit more, and the one regret that I will always have is not taking opportunities when they were presented, and waiting too long. But, for every door closing in a person's life, another one opens, and new opportunity awaits. God Bless everyone I know, and keep them safe, and I wish everyone a wonderful, happy life, and hope you can keep in touch via e mail (mmm29only). I am on aol. Some of you I have kept in touch since HIgh School, others I would love to hear from. feel free to write to me. Michelle
