Michelle's Story

Hi everyone. It's been a long time since we all were in high school! I went to college at Cal State U., Fullerton, graduated and got a teaching credential. Not being able to find a teaching position in 1972, I went into accounting, eventually becoming a controller of a small electronics distributorship. My real passion still involved education and eventually I got a teaching position at Westminster Christian School after having my 2 children: Tina and Patrick. They both attended the school as well. Finally I needed to make more income and moved on to Pomona Unified School District where I taught 2 years and then became a School Site Specialist (cheap way to get an assistant principal). After that I really wanted to make a bigger impact for children than just those in my classroom so I sought a principalship from Northern California down to t...Expand for more
he Mexican border in California. I married Don Vaught in 1979 and have been married for 32 years. Don is 15 years older than me so he is now retired. I was offered a principalship at La Rosa Elementary, a K through 3 school in Temple City where I worked two years. Traveling 38 miles each way on LA freeways was not desirable, however, so I found a principalship down at Saddleback Valley Unified School District where I've worked the last 14 years. My husband and I live in a house on Lake Forest II and have an electric boat we enjoy. I was principal of Valencia Elementary and now am principal at Lake Forest Elementary School. My grandson attends there as well. My daughter had one son and my son has two boys and just recently moved to San Antonio, Texas, of all places where he works as a paramedic. That's pretty much my life story up until now.
