Mickey's Story

On December 19, 2009, one day before our 34th wedding anniversary, I lost my best friend, my lover, my wife to cancer. Lesley was an incredible woman who loved me despite myself, who believed in me when no one else did. She saw me through a rough voyage of drug and alcohol abuse, remaining at my side when she had every reason to abandon me. Her belief in me has played a huge role in my 22 continual years of an alcohol and drug free life. She was there, my partner in our little start up company, a landscape maintenance business, begun with a pick up truck and a credit card and supported me as we grew to 48 employees and a county wide enterprise. And she allowed me to care for her the last months of her life, allowing me to at least try to repay the lifetime debt I owed her. And in the end, our love was stronger than ever imaginable. She will be remembered in our community lovingly as "Mean Mrs. Robinson", but to the children who spent their afternoons here after school, she will will be forever known as "Mom" or simply Lesley. Her legacy is the menagerie of animals she saved, never turning away a stray, her ability to swing a hammer and never shy away from any physical labor including remodeling with me our old 1929 home from the bottom up. There will be a memorial service and celebration of life for Lesley at Soule Park, Ojai, CA on Saturday, March 20, 2010. Her obituary is posted until January 26, 2011 on the Ventura County Star web page. I linked that page and both my Facebook and Myspace page but this crappy Classmates won't allow l...Expand for more
inks. So I will tell you I have a Facebook page under Mickey Robinson. The MySpace, page. That's a different story, one of duplicity, the pursuit of love, romance and finally forgiveness as told by my alter ego, Mick Aarson at (again, to get around the censors: 3-w's dot myspace dot com backslash four, 3, seven and seven, ninety-two, 8, forty-five. It is sure to have something to offend every reader. I am also hoping to post a best of, if not a new version of this blog on Blogger.com, under MickAarson at blogger dot com, soon. April 28, 2010. An update. I am now seeing a woman. Some may say it is too soon, that I am not properly respecting my wife's memory. I say that true love knocks only a few times in our lives and if we refuse to open the door and let it in, then we are destined to be lonely and miserable. The woman I am in love with was my wife's best childhood friend and her Maiden of Honor at our wedding as my wife was her Maid of Honor at hers. Although she attended La Serna, she graduated at a school near Corona del Mar. The romantic in us believe my wife brought us together as we became reaquainted during her illness but only saw the sparks after her death. We live 400 miles apart, she in Northern California while I am moving to the beach in Ventura. This creates challenges in our love relationship but only challenges, not obstacles. We both are able to travel and travel to each other we do and will do until the day our careers allow us to marry and live together. That woman? Her name is Laura. Laura Marrero. Mickey
